What is Equity?

Equity is the UK Trade Union representing professional performers and other creative workers from across the spectrum of the entertainment, creative and cultural industries. www.equity.org.uk

Where is 3rd degree based and how far will you travel to do a show?

We are based in Newcastle, and primarily do shows in England, Scotland and Wales

We have done shows further a field for example in the Thomson Gold hotels in Ibiza, if you are considering hiring us for a show abroad please contact us well in advance to allow us to make the required travel arrangements

What Fuel Do You Use/Is a fire show really safe?

Our fuel is paraffin; this burns with a bright clean flame and is relatively cold. All of 3rddegree’s performers have at least 1 years experince with fire shows and our shows are done to strict safety regimes. Our Chief Fire Safety Performer has a Level 3 OCN in Circus Rigging and Fire Safety. And we are fully covered by our insurance please see below  for more details of this.

What insurance does 3rd degree have?

We have Fire Performance public liability cover for £2,000,000, provided by First Act insurance company through the Equity Performing arts Trades union

Can 3rd degree perform indoors?

Yes, our insurance is unaffected indoors or out, as long as sufficient space is provided and all flammable material cleared we do not have a problem, However some venue’s have some policy’s against indoor fire performances. But if the Venue does not allow us to perform with fire then all of our routines can be done with UV instead(see below)

NB: Low Ceilings will prevent some of the more spectacular throws,  Curtains etc will need to be removed from the performance area and food preparation should not be done in the same room during or immediately after a fire performance for health and safety reasons.

Do You also perform with glow equipment?

Yes we do! As seen here, these are often for indoor shows when the venue does not allow for fire, these shows can look just as impressive as fire and be more mesmerizing, as the variety of colors can be far greater. but the show requires the lights to be off!

How much space do you need to perform?

For a normal show a 2m by 6m stage with a 2m perimeter and at least 4m headroom would be the minimum. However we can work out different routines to suit small spaces such as podiums etc. Performances are often done in fenced off areas of car parks or lawns

If you perform on grass will you leave burnt patches?

A small amount of damage can occur, but will not be major and will quickly re-grow, any lawn that is frequently walked upon will not be a problem.

Do you perform to music?

Yes, we can either one of our own percussionists, or can play a CD of music suited to the event on your PA system

What happens if the weather turns bad?

We can perform in most weather; strong wind however is a problem for lighting the equipment and would make a show impossible, for this reason we recommend that outside shows are placed in areas sheltered from the likely wind directions

In rain extravagant costumes may have to be substituted, if the ground becomes very slippery some of the more acrobatic tricks will also have to be removed from the routine;

But as a general guide if the crowd can bear the weather then we can too!

Do I need to pay a deposit and what happens if I need to cancel?

We will require a 50% deposit of the agreed price once the final booking is made, if you cancel 1week or more before the show half of this deposit will be returned.

Cancellations made within 1week of the show will loose the deposit.

If the cancellation is made less than 24hrs before a show is scheduled to start we will require full payment.

How far in advance do I need to book?

Ideally give us at least 4 weeks notice, to allow us to check availability of performers and adjust a routine to suit your event. However if you need a show in less than this time we are still likely to be able to put something together, just contact us ASAP.

Is VAT included in the price?

3rd degree is not a VAT registered organization consequently VAT is not applicable to any prices quoted

Does it have to be dark when you perform?

No, but it does look more impressive the darker it is

NB: For UV performances darkness is essential
